Mom Upcycles Plastic Dollhouses Into Gothic And Creepy Looking Mansions

In the years 1959, Barbie was first introduced to the world. Unlike today, the first-ever doll wore a zebra-striped black and white swimsuit and of course, the signature topknot ponytail. Other than that, the iconic barbie dream house, which is now fully pink – or should we say barbie pink, was also launched in another colour. In 1962, the original Dreamhouse was made in the colour yellow with pink, dark wood colour and a hint of blue. It was not until the year 1990 when the magical mansion was released. It was amongst the most elaborated of the Dreamhouses as it consisted of electronic features as well. After that, all the Dreamhouses were mostly made in the colour we now know as Barbie pink, which is also copyrighted by Mattel.

However, this trend of having pink dollhouses didn’t settle well with many people, including Samantha Browning. She decided that not every dollhouse has to be painted all pink and there are other colours that may look amazing on these houses after watching a woman paint a dollhouse black on TikTok. Thinking that it was a wonderful idea, Samantha found herself in the thrift store, buying an $8 dollhouse and black paints, both spray ones and acrylics.

Here is a result of what wonders she has made. Scroll down and have a look;

In an interview, Samantha explained how the next two of her dollhouses were more expensive than the first one she bought.
“The next two dollhouses were a bit more money. I found them on the Facebook Marketplace for $25 but thought they were worth the money because the designs were really beautiful. The last one I found was only $1 and I haven’t started on it yet but I think once I do it will be one of the best. It has a very modern look to it so I can expand a bit more with the details.”

She explained how painting these dollhouses is actually not such a small task given the number of details moulded onto each one. Even though the first one did not take much time, she decided to pay extra attention to the next ones;
“The first one was 5 hours because I didn’t plan on doing much more than the spray paint and a few details but the dollhouses have so many of their own designs moulded into them that you can really spend any amount of time changing them to fit the theme you’re going for. The more houses I get, the more I try to change those items to make the piece completely different and grow from where I started.”

Even though people would have loved to buy Samantha’s creepy creations, she is not ready to sell and would rather keep it in her family. We respect that!
“This year, with the pandemic and Halloween being ‘canceled,’ I may try to make one of those banister pipes to slide candy down for families that still want to participate in a safe way, I have one of the dollhouses displayed on an interior porch, but the night of, I will probably bring the two spookiest houses outside with battery operated candles.”

Samantha had doubts about her art, even though she was good at it. But, knowing everybody and their talents, she felt as if she wasn’t good enough and hence, did not pursue it as much as she should’ve
“I’m an artist but I’ve never done much more than draw or paint on a canvas in what little free time I have with kids and everyone in my life has always been very supportive of my art, but when you look around at all the beautiful and incredible things other people are making, you look at your own art as inferior or underwhelming and that can crush your drive to keep creating.”

She also never knew that her amazing creations could gain this much popularity!
“This whole dollhouse thing was completely different from anything I’d done and if you told me even 6 months ago it would go viral, I wouldn’t have believed you.”

Never knew dollhouses can look this appealing. Now we know not everything has to be pink to look amazing. We just hope we could somehow buy these or be creative enough to make these. Personally, I wouldn’t even mind going over to Samantha’s house and camping there just to see these. Or would that be too much? Well, guess we’ll never know!
