Illustrator Creates Spot On IKEA Instructions On How To Create Famous Horror Movie Characters

Horror! We all love that genre. The thrill, the excitement, the suspense, and even the jump scares. However, this genre is not for everybody, especially the faint-hearted. Amongst the lovers of this genre is Ed Harrington, an artist based in Virginia, known for his illustrations. Fascinated by this genre, ever since he was a little child, he decided to bless us all with his version of scary movie characters.
In an interview with Bored Panda, Ed Harrington, who is also known as nothinghappenedtoday on Instagram, Tumblr, and his website, revealed the name of his new series – IKEA instructions. This series featured instructions on how to make horror movie villains. These instructions though are simple, we can’t help but admire the artwork and the ideas.

We have picked out some of the best IKEA inspired illustrations from his work for you:

1. Samara

Recipe for disaster in just 7 days!
For those of you who haven’t seen the movie “The Ring”, Samara is known to be one of the creepiest and scariest character of all times.

2. Betel Geuse

Do you want to meet the legend himself? Why don’t you call out his name 3 times!

3. Edward Scissorhands

All you need is: 14 scissors and no hands.

4. Darth Vader

Take the chosen one, making him evil, cut off all his limbs and attach the IKEA made prosthetics and VOILA! You now have your own Darth Vadar.

“I usually stick to horror for IKEA series because I enjoy the genre, and most villains have a “creation” story that I can mine for ideas. Occasionally, I venture into other subjects, but horror seems to work better for the concept.” It usually takes the artist between 6-12 hours depending upon how complicated the character may be and how many steps would be needed to create the illustrations. This series not only focuses on movies but also has horror characters from books.

5. Hannibal Lecter

Now, who hasn’t seen the movie “The Silence of the lambs”? Dr. Hannibal Lecter is a forensic psychiatrist, as well as a cannibalistic serial killer.

6. Carrie

But… would the blood be included?

Harringon has been working as an illustrator for the past 20 years. “For my “day job,” I work as a graphic designer at an alt-weekly newspaper. Nights are spent working on illustration commissions or just drawing for fun. I’ve done illustration work for Fox television, Penguin Books, id10t, and others. I’ve been drawing my entire life, and even went to art school for college to study graphic design and illustration at Virginia Commonwealth University. I think that my commercial art background as a designer/illustrator with a realistic drawing style allows me to mimic most artistic drawing styles and allows me to be flexible in my subject matter.” No wonder why these and all his other illustrations are amazing!
